It's all in one window and can be managed with tabs and side bar menus and such and this is a huge deal IMO. I currently use a self-written shell script to help me quickly connect to recent hosts You can do this with a config file, but a clicky interface would be nice sometimes. You can keep a list of connections in a side bar that all individually have their own settings such as different private keys or passwords or ports. You can split windows up sort of like in tmux or iTerm2. That means no SCP commands or firing up FileZilla or mounting shares via SSHFS or whatever other thing you might do to quickly transfer files. It automatically adds an SFTP session along for the ride so you can drag and drop files/folders wherever you are. I hadn't used MobaXterm in 6 years and have been firmly in Linux land for years, but here are the things I was reminded of instantly when I fired it up in WINE: I got to thinking today that I would love to use something like MobaXterm on Linux if it existed, but I can't find anything like it. The only reason it's worse is the global hotkey for hiding and showing the window breaks fairly often to the point that I mostly just don't use it and I use it all the time on mac. It's almost as good as iTerm2 in my book. Just create a configuration file at ~/.chromaterm.I currently use Terminator and I don't have many complaints about it. You can use your own keywords and regex to highlight. Out of the box ChromaTerm highlights IP addresses and common words. Here’s ifconfig from an SSH session colorized with ChromaTerm: You can wrap ssh with ChromaTerm and it will automatically colorize your SSH session: 1 There are many great colorizers like grc or ccat, but none of them work with interactive programs like SSH. Gnome terminal has a feature request open for a long time, but no progress so far. It highlights IP addresses, common keywords like ‘error’, ‘success’, ‘failed’, etc. One of the features that almost all terminal emulators on Linux lack is regex-based keyword highlighting.įor example MobaXterm on Windows highlights SSH session outputs automatically.
